The book, The Dot, has inspired International Dot Day as a day to explore your creative potential. Dots candies and toothpicks or inexpensive narrow craft sticks allow for an endless amount of creative structural engineering. I did this with 4th and 5th grade, but any elementary age could do this. It would be great for middle school if you supply them with more dots and varying lengths of sticks.
