The Project: Basic Catapult

Celebrate Halloween by making craft stick catapults to serve as personal "pumpkin chuckers."Rolls small pieces of orange construction paper to serve as the "pumpkins."

1. Attach 8 craft sticks together in a stack with a tight rubber band at each end.

2. Attach two craft sticks together with a rubber band at one end.

3. Shove the thick stack into the thin stack as far as it will go.

4. Rubberband the two stack of stick together in an X shape until it's secure.

5. Punch a hole in the center of a soda/water bottle cap.

6. Thread a rubberband through the hole.

7. On the inside of the cap, put in a small piece of cardboard to keep the rubber band from coming through the hole.

8. One the outside of the cap, twist the rubberband around the "fling arm" of the catapult until secure.

9. Load up with orange paper balls, and you have a pumpkin chucker.

I have done this with second grade and up. For second and third grade, I usually have to help some with the criss-crossed rubber bands in the middle of the device.
